In 2021-22, Choral Canada (CC) worked with Charles Smith and Erin Jones from the Cultural Pluraisum in the Arts Movement Ontario on a new five-year strategic plan titled Pathways to Tomorrow: Resilience, Relevance and Growth in the Choral and Group Singing Arts Sector in Canada. This plan is based on several focus groups, interviews, CC directors workshops, an open survey to both members and non-members, as well as environmental scans of similar organizations in Canada, the US and Europe.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the creation of this plan!
We will be sharing the details of the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan with our membership and the public in the near future. In the meantime, we have provided some highlights below:
Updated Mission, Goals, and Strategic Plan Vision
Based on the feedback we received through our strategic plan process, our updated mission, goals, and vision for our strategic plan are as follows:
Mission
Choral Canada celebrates and champions group singing across Canada in all its forms.
Goals
- Support and encourage participation in and celebration of choral music and group singing at all levels and build diverse communities by offering training, resources, and various forums for the exchange of information.
- Foster the creation and performance of choral music in Canada.
- Partner with other organizations to create a higher profile for, and better service of, the choral music and group singing arts sector at the provincial, national, and international levels.
- Help make choral music and group singing available and accessible to all people living in Canada.
Strategic Plan Vision
- Evaluate, build on and enhance current programs and services to members, ensuring that Accessibility, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Decoloniality, and Anti-Racism are a priority in Choral Canada programs and services in order to increase the relevance, representation and diversity for all of its current and potential stakeholders.
- Spark and support an expanded conception of ‘choral’ singing, i.e. all forms of group singing, across Canada in order to promote the growth of this important, multi-faceted art form.
- Develop new connections and frameworks to ensure that Choral Canada’s programs and services involve and engage diverse and underserved communities through choral and group singing.
- Provide models for the sector that enable continuous reflection and growth of choral music, e.g., developing community engagement practices, bringing diverse singing groups together to share practices and to create new repertoire.
Choral Canada is on a transformational journey over the next five years (and beyond) and we appreciate everyone’s involvement and care as we build new relationships, offer relevant programming, and advocate for group singing across the country.
