WORLD YOUTH CHOIR 2012
CANADIAN NATIONAL AUDITIONS – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Calling Young Canadian singers!
If you’re between the ages of 17 and 26 and an enthusiastic, experienced choral singer, the Association of Canadian Choral Communities invites you to audition for a chance to represent Canada in the World Youth Choir 2012!

Eligibility
To be eligible to audition for the World Youth Choir, you must be between the ages of 17 and 26 as of July 1, 2012.

Audition Process
All eligible candidates must participate in Canadian national auditions. A national jury of some of Canada’s most exceptional and experienced choral leaders will recommend up to 12 Canadian singers (3 for each voice part) for consideration by the international jury, who will make the final selection. In order to ensure that all eligible Canadian singers have the opportunity to participate, the ACCC will facilitate an online audition submission and jury process.

Interested candidates should carefully read the attached Audition Requirements and Guidelines. Candidates must identify a voice teacher or choral conductor in their community who will act as the Audition Facilitator, administering the audition (including sight singing) and verifying the authenticity of the recording.

Candidates must electronically submit an audio recording and all required support materials to the Association of Canadian Choral Communities, on or before February 1, 2012.

Audition Requirements and Guidelines are available here.

About the World Youth Choir
The World Youth Choir has been appointed Artist for Peace by UNESCO. Without speeches, without banners, the World Youth Choir presents its message of music, international peace, and brotherhood in perfect artistic unity.

Since its creation in 1989, the World Youth Choir (WYC) has established itself as an incredible musical and intercultural experience for young musicians. Each summer, about 100 singers, aged between 17 and 26 and representing 40 countries, come together in a different country of the world. Their month together includes two weeks of rehearsals followed by a performance tour, presenting concerts in prestigious halls and cultural centres within the host country and neighbouring countries.

The artistic scope of the project is in itself a major achievement. The World Youth Choir also represents for its members a unique personal and social experience. Regardless of political or cultural differences, young people holding a common appreciation for singing share one month together. This allows for work and leisure, conversation and debate. From this community of singers evolve lifelong friendships.

The 2012 session will be held from August 3 – September 1, 2012 in Pedoulas, Cyprus, with touring to Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and other surrounding countries. Events will be conducted in English. Good knowledge of the language is required. From arrival to departure, accommodation, transportation and all material needs are provided by the World Youth Choir. Participants are responsible for fulfilling official Visa and passport requirements. Participants are required to pay for travel to and from Cyprus and personal spending money.
