National Youth Choir Tour Coordinator Call for Applications

Job Description
The Association of Canadian Choral Communities (ACCC) is seeking a Coordinator for the National Youth Choir (NYC) 2014. The Coordinator will work closely with the National Youth Choir Committee and ACCC staff to carry out the organizational activities of the NYC rehearsal camp and tour, and to coordinate all logistical matters concerning NYC 2014.
The rehearsal camp and tour will take place in Nova Scotia and the Maritime Provinces from May 4-19, 2014. While much of the Coordinator’s work must be carried out well in advance, it is required that the Coordinator be onsite and travel with the choir throughout the rehearsal camp and tour.
Duties of the Coordinator shall include, but not be limited to the following:
- Coordinate the NYC rehearsal camp and tour, including accommodations, rehearsal venues, transportation, food, concert venues and presenters, rehearsal and performance schedule, workshop and public outreach opportunities, music, advertising and concert promotion, recreational activities, and other opportunities particular to the region and/or this NYC session.
- Work closely with ACCC staff to ensure that revenues and expenses remain within the pre-approved project budget.
- Work closely with the artistic personnel, including the Conductor, to ensure the timely coordination of repertoire distribution, communication with singers, selection of rehearsal and performance venues, and other musical and artistic details.
- Liaise with the Podium Steering Committee to coordinate the Podium concert and other Podium events in which NYC participates.
- Maintain close contact with ACCC staff and attend teleconference meetings of the NYC Committee.
- Assist ACCC staff and the NYC Committee with fundraising, including local advertising, sponsorships and in-kind support.
- Communicate rehearsal and tour details in a timely manner with the NYC singers and act as the liaison between choir members, the ACCC office, community hosts, and artistic personnel.
- Provide regular verbal and/or written reports for the
NYC Committee.
- Have strong arts administrative skills and experience, particularly in the organizational aspects of managing such activities as the NYC rehearsal camp and tour.
- Reside in the tour region and have connections to the local music community.
- Demonstrate ability to assist with fundraising, including in-kind donations and local advertising.
- Possess exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Have experience working within and adhering to project budgets.
- Be familiar with choirs and choral music.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication
skills in English. Bilingual candidates (English/French)
are preferred.

The National Youth Choir of Canada/Choeur national des jeunes du Canada is a professional development program for Canada’s best emerging choral singers. Singers between the ages of 18 and 25 are auditioned every two years, with up to 4 singers chosen from each province and territory. NYC conductors are selected by a panel of their peers. Some of the finest Canadian choral conductors have been invited to conduct the choir. The National Youth Choir 2014 will be conducted by Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt, Director of Choral Programs at the University of Toronto.
The NYC convenes in a different region every two years, in association with Podium, Canada’s national biennial choral conference and festival. The NYC 2014 rehearsal camp and tour will take place in Nova Scotia and the Maritime Provinces from May 4-19, 2014. It is required that the Accompanist be onsite and travel with the choir throughout the rehearsal camp and tour.
The successful applicant will be an accomplished collaborative pianist with experience working with professional-level choirs. Applicants must reside within the tour region. NYC rehearsals will be conducted in English.

Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt
Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt is Director of Choral Programs at the University of Toronto. Dr. Apfelstadt holds degrees in vocal music education from the University of Toronto, the University of Illinois, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Choirs under her direction have performed at regional and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and at state and regional conferences of the National Association of Music Education. She has conducted many honour choirs and all-state choruses throughout the United States, and has guest conducted in Canada, Cuba, and England. In February 2009, she conducted the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in a public broadcast of “Music and the Spoken Word.” She is a frequent lecturer and clinician at professional conferences and universities, and is a mentor to many young conductors and choral educators. Dr. Apfelstadt’s research areas include leadership styles among conductors, and choral repertoire, particularly by Canadian composers.
Executive Director - Chor Leoni Men's Choir

Currently managed by an active working board and part-time administrative staff, Chor Leoni will implement a new operational structure in the months ahead. The board will shift its focus to governance and appoint its first Executive Director to provide operational leadership.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director will manage all aspects of operations, guided by board policy and the Chor Leoni strategic plan. Responsibilities include budget development, financial management, staff and volunteer management, audience development, fund development, community engagement, production, and general administration. Some areas may be supported by part-time contract positions and working committees. Reporting directly to the Board, the Executive Director will work in close partnership with the Artistic Director.
Qualifications
For this challenging position, Chor Leoni requires an experienced organizational leader with demonstrated success managing projects, developing relationships, increasing revenues, and building capacity. The Executive Director will have excellent analytical, financial, and organizational skills, with an ability to assess opportunities and focus the organization on its strategic priorities. The ideal candidate will exhibit humility, self-assessment, and outstanding interpersonal skills.
Compensation
This is a flexible position with variable hours (average 30 hours per week) and a salary range of $40,000-$45,000 plus potential performance bonus. This is an independent contract, not an employee position.
About Chor Leoni
Now celebrating its twentieth anniversary season, Vancouver’s Chor Leoni Men’s Choir was founded in 1992 by Diane Loomer, C.M. The organization is regarded as a leader in the Canadian male choir movement and is committed to fostering composers, conductors, and young male singers. Chor Leoni has earned national and international honours, including a dozen awards at the 51st Seghizzi International Choral Singing Competition in 2012. The choir has produced 11 CDs and can be heard regularly on national broadcasts. In September of 2012, Chor Leoni announced the appointment of Erick Lichte as its new Artistic Director.
